Overview:

Over 5 years producing and managing usable and accessible web products in a commercial environment. Currently Web editor of The Evening Telegraph newspaper website, peterborougtoday.co.uk, part of the Johnston Press group, we are Digital Publishing Centre of the Year for 2006.

Using Web standard XHTML and CSS to combine effective visual design and branding with well structured layout and consistent navigation; backed by an understanding of editorial content issues together with commercial and project management skills.

Skills:

  • PC and Mac – Dreamweaver MX 2004+, Photoshop CS+, MS Office/Open Office, Content Management Systems, Web standard XHTML and CSS.
  • Some experience of Fireworks, ASP, JavaScript, PHP, Adobe Acrobat, Flash, journalism, sub-editing for web, web copywriting, photography and digital audio production.
  • Web design: clean, semantic mark up, meta data, image creation optimisation and site redesign experience.
  • Accessibility: understanding of W3C compliance and accessibility methods, making web accessible to all users/platforms.
  • Usability: user centred design, information architecture issues, navigational structures, branding and user interface design.
  • Communication: liaise with editorial, commercial, IT and production departments of Evening Telegraph newspaper.
  • Project management: realistic and objective approach to multimedia projects.
  • Project management: ability to work in a team or to complete tasks alone.

Projects:

The Guide: local entertainment content minisite of Peterborough Today containing entertainment previews, reviews and interview from The Evening Telegraph newspaper.
Redesigned and produced with web standard XHTML, CSS and ASP.

Your Community: News from where you live - Peterborough Today, collection of local news feds, news Google map and local information, created with usable accessible XHTML/CSS mark up and jQuery JavaScript plugins, November 2007.

Responsibilities as Web editor:

Administrating all aspects of the site including daily editorial content upload using content management system and Dreamweaver; planning editorial and commercial strategies; updating navigational elements and existing content; liaising with other newspaper departments; dealing with user orders and queries; producing web standard and accessible content, graphics and promotional images.

Played league cricket for Barton CC, Devon, 1990 to 2000; 2nd XI bowler of the year 1998 and 1999. Abbotskerswell CC, Devon 2001/02, part of 2nd XI promotion team 2002. Peterborough Town CC 2003 to date, Saturday 2nd XI Player of the Year 2003 & 2007.
